Description

The signature “Fanta orange” color

  • pure, saturated electric orange to neon tangerine color
  • exceptional brightness
  • strong internal glow (“fiery juice” appearance)

This vibrant color comes from high manganese (Mn²⁺) with low iron contamination, which is rare in garnet chemistry.

Most spessartines become brownish, reddish, or muddy when iron is present—so the pure orange is extremely special.

Gem-quality vivid orange spessartine has historically come from only a few small deposits:

  • Nambia (Kunene Region) – classic “Mandarin” material
  • Tanzania (Loliondo) – extremely vivid Fanta-like neon orange
  • Nigeria – good color but inconsistent supply
  • Mozambique – sporadic production
  • Sri Lanka – rare, mostly pastel

Many of these deposits were small, quickly exhausted, or closed.

The famous Loliondo Tanzanian deposit has been especially unstable, with long shutdowns and political restrictions.

Rare chemical structure:

  • high manganese
  • very low iron
  • clean crystal growth with high clarity

This chemical combination is rare in nature.

Small changes in iron turn the gem from vibrant orange → brown. So world-class orange crystals form only under narrow conditions.

💰 Investment Attractiveness of Fanta Garnet

1. Increasing rarity and declining production

Many top mining areas are depleted or restricted. New major finds are unlikely because spessartine forms in narrow geological settings.

When production drops and demand stays strong, prices rise—this has already been observed with Tanzanian and Namibian material.

2. Strong collector demand

Collectors love Fanta garnet for:

  • its distinctive electric color
  • its vividness under all lighting conditions
  • its uniqueness among orange gemstones

Fine specimens often sell fast and rarely return to the market.

3. Stable market compared to many colored gemstones

Unlike fashion-driven stones, orange spessartine has:

  • a consistent collector base
  • decades of stable demand
  • appeal to both Asian and Western markets

This makes it less volatile than many gemstones.

Condition Guide

Ever wondered how we categorise the condition of the items we sell? We've put together this guide below, so you know exactly what you're getting.

Unworn

As the name suggests, these pieces have never been used. They have also been stored perfectly, and have no signs of wear or use. They may even come with original tags.

  • Grade: N (New With Tags)
  • Grade: S (Never Used, New Condition without Tags)

Excellent

While these pieces can't claim to be unworn, they certainly appear to be. These items have hardly ever been used and have no signs of wear.

  • Grade: SA (Near Brand-New Condition)
  • Grade: A (Excellent Condition. Barely Used)

Very Good

With minimal use and wear, these pieces are the perfect balance of price and wear. They may have small signs of wear that are only visible up close.

  • Grade: B+ (Very Good Condition. Used with Care)

Good

These items have some signs of use, perhaps slight staining, slight wear to the corners, or hardware scratches. They come at a great price.

  • Grade: B (Pre-loved, Good Condition)

Fair

These pieces have signs of use that will be visible – perhaps some staining or wear. They are reasonably priced because of this.

  • Grade: B- (Pre-loved, Used Condition)

Worn

These pieces are priced very reasonably as they have obvious signs of wear. This could be staining, wear, or missing elements, such as zipper pulls. They are great for a buyer who is happy to upcycle them – having them restored, cleaned up, or re-adding missing pieces.

  • Grade: C (Obvious Flaws. Used)
