An old cut diamond culet is the bottommost flat facet at the base of the stone. Unlike modern brilliant cuts designed to come to a perfect point, antique diamonds (like Old Mine and Old European cuts) feature this "open" culet, which can appear as a visible, charming dark circle through the top of the diamond.
