In 1984, British actress Jane Birkin sat next to Jean-Louis Dumas, Executive Chairman of Hermes, during a flight and complained that no bag suited her needs as a young mother. Right away, Dumas sketched out a spacious holdall, supple and rectangular in shape, with distinct saddle stitching and a burnished flap. This bag had the space to hold baby bottles while still being stylish enough to take anywhere. Thus, Hermes Birkin bags were created.
The Birkin comes in a range of sizes. Some of the more popular ones are the Hermes Birkin 25 and Hermes Birkin 30, which are perfectly compact for holding essentials and carrying around during events.
